The Woes of Complete Finality.

Alright, so as a way to introduce myself as a reader and a wannabe writer, I must first share a characteristic about myself, or rather, my bibliophile self, that instigates significant distress in my being while simultaneously  offering others a opportunity to laugh at my melodrama.

I love books so much, so SO much, that when a series/trilogy/one-time-hit-wonder ends, I am absolutely broken.
          Lost
          Immovably distraught.

Now, you may be wondering why I am venting to this blog in its very first post like a teenage girl who just got her first boyfriend, but alas, there is a reason for everything.

Today, the cover for the third and final book in Veronica Roth's Divergent Trilogy has finally made its appearance.
And when I say finally, I mean it in loose terms.

Allegiant comes out on October 22, 2013

Is it not the most beautiful thing that you have ever seen? Ah...
But more on that another time when I can think straight.

The reason that I use finally loosely is because while I am unbiased-ly one of Veronica Roth's biggest fans, (don't you shake your head at me thinking "omg, everyone is Veronica Roth's 'biggest fan', this girl isn't real", I kid you not. Check out my facebook page. Im crazy) I love the books so much that the idea of them ending is unfathomable, a word which I use to its truest extent.

After I read the second book in the trilogy, Insurgent, I was floored, biting my nails impatiently in an angsty wait for the third book. I was also slightly depressed because yet again, I had read a book that was amazing, but not real.

It's the whole "not real" part that gets me the most. I find it hard to take when I read a book that makes me want  so badly to alter my lifestyle to match that of the protagonists, only to remember that this person does not exist. The world which has ensnared my interest so absolutely is not present on earth. And while during those six hours it took me to read the book I was apart of that world, when I finish the book I am no longer. I cannot un-read what I read. The magic of the first read has been explored, exhausted and conquered.

So in the aftermath of Insurgent, listening to Florence and the Machine's Ceremonials on repeat and randomly breaking into tears, I consoled myself with the knowledge that it was not over yet. There was more to come. There still the third book. After Insurgent, I was able to pretend that while the third book was coming, it was far away. The trilogy was still open, there was more to read, more of the story to be discovered, more for me to love.

With the recent release of the title of the third book Allegiant, and just today the cover reveal, the book that I had been waiting for and somewhat lovingly ignoring, has now been given a name and a face. It is happening, the end is coming near, and it will come whether or not I cower in the fear of the end or (appropriately) dauntlessly face it head first.

CORNY ALERT*

When I am feeling scared, or insignificant, or unsure, I think of what the protagonist of the series, Tris, would do. For me she serves as a constant source of inspiration and guidance.
I am someone who has a hard time doing what I want to do, whether it be due to fear or insecurity etc.

Two of the things Veronica Roth has provided me as a reader, and as a aspiring writer, is the safe haven of a dystopian Chicago to return to at any time in my life, even though ironically Chicago is not so safe in the series, and also the determination and inspiration to mirror her creativity and individuality and write someone else's favourite book. I want to write the book that someone wants to read, that will evolve to be someone's favourite story.

Because while all of us can tell a story, not all of us can be a storyteller. I strive to satiate the hungry eyes and minds of YA readers like myself.
